Top Vacuums for Carpets

The number of vacuums on the market today is mind boggling. It is nearly as hard to pick a vacuum as it is a home, vehicle or number of other products. Some big name vacuum cleaners exist. Among the most well-known vacuums on the market today is the Dyson, which first entered the vacuum cleaner industry in the early 1990s. The Dyson offers what they popularly market as the cyclone technology.

Dyson is not the only manufacturer offering something new and cool however. Other popular manufacturers include those offering bagless vacuums, which are often considered by consumers and vacuum manufacturers alike o be higher-end than traditional vacuums partly because they are high-performing. Bagless vacuum cleaners are offered by a number of companies including Hoover, which offers the WindTunnel T-Series, an Upright Vacuum that ranges in price from $99 to $129 dollars and can be found in retail outlets and online.

Some vacuums also offer carpet cleaning capability. These lightweight models offer dual features, meaning they are able to pick up animal hairs from the deeper layers of carpet, and also help with stain removal technology. Multiple purpose vacuums can be of benefit to families that want a do-it-all vacuum. A good example in this line up is the Bissel Healthy Home Upright.

Hand Held and Smaller Model Vacuums

Still other consumers want a vacuum that offers something smaller for getting into tight spaces. Smaller brushes are a great option for tight spots. An excellent choice for hand held vacuums includes the Black and Decker CHV1510 Dustbuster 15.6 volt cordless cyclonic hand vacuum, which is also a very affordable and economic choice at $40 to $90 retail value.

And, last but not least there are still bagged vacuums for families that like the old-fashioned vacuum. The Hoover Wind Tunnel Anniversary Edition is a great option for families that like traditional vacuums.

How to Remove Stains From Carpets

Nothing feels worse than dropping a glass of wine or other colored liquid on your favorite carpet. Carpet stains have to be approached very carefully. Rubbing a stain in the wrong way can help it set into the carpet rather than take it out of the fibers of a carpet.

Other foods that commonly stain carpets include ketchup, coffee, tea, tomato sauces and chocolate. Fortunately there are plenty of ways to clean a carpet so that you can’t even tell that something stained your carpet in the first place.

Here are some ways to clean synthetic carpet fibers.

· First, dip a white colored cloth or paper towel in detergent and press on the cloth for a few seconds. This can help soak up extra liquid.

· You can then soak up liquid with a dry white cloth.

· You can cover the stain with some salt, and allow the salt to soak up the color, particularly if you do not have the ingredients to clean the stain with immediately. Then vacuum up the salt when you are ready to clean the stain.

· Use a vinegar solution to clean the stain, consisting of one cup of white vinegar to two cups of water. Dip your white cloth into this solution and press into the stain repeatedly. Wait for 15 minutes. The white vinegar should help remove detergent and attract dirt left in your carpet.

· Blot your stain and carpet with lukewarm water. Then wait one hour or until the carpet dries.

· If your spill is bad, you can alternately place baking soda on the spill mixed with white vinegar and allow this mixture to dry. You can work this paste up using an old toothbrush. The baking soda should soak up the stain. Once the mixture dries, the stain should be gone. Sometimes you may need to treat the stain more than once.

Natural Fibers

Typically vinegar also works on natural fiber rugs as well. You can often spray the stain with a vinegar solution, and blot dry with a white cloth rather than pouring a solution into the material. For chocolate or candies, it helps to spray the stain with a solution of ammonia, which should consist of one tablespoon of ammonia with ½ cup of lukewarm water.

How to Take Care of Carpets

Carpets are great. They are beautiful, dynamic, wonderful and a great way to add a splash of color to an otherwise dull room. Over time however, the constant to and from of feet can wreak havoc on the plush fibers of a carpet. Infrequent care can lead to disaster of even the best carpets. It is important that you take time out of your daily routine to care for carpets appropriately.

This will help minimize the long-term effects of wear on your carpets.

Basic Carpet Cleaning

Cleaning a carpet is a good idea, and helps promote carpet longevity. While it may sound daunting at first, particularly if you have wall-to-wall carpeting, cleaning carpets is not as difficult as it sounds when you break it up into small chunks.

The first step to cleaning a good carpet involves vacuuming your carpet regularly. Not vacuuming attracts insects and other creatures into the carpet. Sweeping can also help keep a smallish carpet or fine weaved carpet looking its best.

Vacuuming in the direction of the weave will help your carpet look and feel its best. If your carpet has fringe you should avoid vacuuming this area as the vacuum may suck up the fringe and tear it. Small carpets should not be placed in the washing machine as this may also tear the carpet. Many launderers offer carpet cleaning services. You can also purchase a carpet cleaner to wash the carpets.

Sunlight can cause carpets to fade, so avoid exposing your carpet to direct sunlight as over time this can cause discoloration, or cause the material in your carpet to become brittle. There are many ways to display a carpet without exposing it to direct sunlight including by using very thin, see through curtains.

Using indirect sunlight is a great way to show off carpets.

Getting Rid of Paint Messes

Painting can be a lot of fun, but can also lead to a lot of messes. This is one of the reason why many people opt out of painting their own home and instead hire someone. The truth is that painting is messy, but there are ways to clean up the messes so you shouldn't pay out of pocket for someone else to do something that isn't that difficult. If you know how to get your mess cleaned up then you can enjoy painting more than ever.

One of the easiest ways to clean up after a paint job is to avoid the mess altogether. There are a lot of precautions you can take when it comes to painting. One of the first things you should always do is tape off the room. This means you won't have a lot of drips on your washboards, outlets or window and door frames. You should always put an old blanket or plastic over the floor too, so you won't have to worry about drips on the floor. Try to cover all your light fixtures with plastic and move furniture out of the room or at least to one side of the room.

Of course, drips and spills are still bound to happen no matter how many precautions you take. If you tend to drip a lot then your first step might be rolling the paint roller a few times before applying it to the wall. You might also want to pour some paint into a cup before if you are painting small areas. This allows the paint to not travel far and can actually help you get some of the paint off the brush before applying it to the wall. If you do manage to drip the take a wet cloth and wipe the drip off the wall. It is best to get it while still wet, but most water based paints are very easy to clean up after they have dried.

Cleaning up after a paint job is bound to happen no matter what. The best thing you can do is try to keep an eye on your progress and get the majority of the mess taken care of before you clean up the plastics. You will love how easy it seems when you don't separate the clean up time from the painting time as the job will simply fly by.

Choose Quality Paint to Get the Job Done

If you have a paint project in mind you  might not think a whole lot about the quality of paint you choose. Paint quality can actually help you save money though. Typical paints compared to good quality paint don't last as long and will have to painted over more often. So, when you decided to take on a task you might want to consider finding a higher quality paint to do the job.

Many people who are looking for a high quality paint don't really know how to tell what paint will meet their standards. One of the easiest ways to choose paint for its quality is to go by name and cost. A lot of paint manufacturers will offer two different brands of paint. One will have a normal title while the other will have premium in the title. These different paints will also have a major difference in price, which should be the best indicator of its quality. Of course, if you are still feeling uncomfortable about the paint you could always ask a salesman for the paint that is most recommended.

Another way to decide if paint is high quality or not is to give it a little test. Once your paint has been through the mixer open it up and stick your thumb and index finger into the paint. If the paint feels gritty then chances are you won't be getting the quality you look for. A good quality paint will feel silky and smooth. You shouldn't purchase the pain if you aren't sure of its quality, so make sure your getting exactly what you want before hand.

Good quality paint can give you an amazing coat that will help you present your home in an amazing light. The best thing about good quality paint is it allows you to put a couple coats on your home that will keep the great quality for the next few years.
