Do’s of Painting

  • ·         DO prepare the area you plan to paint. This will require gathering all of the supplies you need to paint with. Make sure you clean unnecessary items out of the way so they are not IN the way. Move all furniture and other items out of the space you plan to work in. Wipe down all walls you plan to paint, and tape all molding. Use a drop cloth to protect other items.
  • ·         DO remove any doorknobs, drapery and related items.
  • ·         DO invest in good paint trays to work with, and disposable tray forms.
  • ·         DO set up a station you can work with that has all of your supplies readily available.
  • ·         DO have all of the paint you will need readily available. Nothing is worse than running out of paint in the middle of a paint job.

Don’ts

  • ·         DON’T wear your best clothes. You will ruin them.
  • ·         DON’T work too fast. You will not like the results.
  • ·         DON’T apply haphazardly. Have a plan and follow it.
  • ·         DON’T paint over wallpaper or other types of substances. If you can remove anything that is on the walls and prime the walls before painting for the best possible finish.
